menu for week of March 26th - No-Shopping Week

>> Monday, March 26, 2012

I think about disasters a lot. Well, maybe not a lot, but I do find myself wondering often how long we could survive at home if we needed to. This past weekend Scott and I rented the movie "Contagion" - it was really thought-provoking. And since I already think about disaster situations probably more than the average person I really wondered a lot this weekend about our ability to survive. Every once in a while in the past I have done No-Shopping Weeks and try to make a menu revolving around the food we already have on hand. It is always a fun challenge. Seeing that movie on Friday and thinking about it all weekend, I have decided that this will be a No-Shopping Week! I will go to the store to get milk in a couple days, but that will be it (after all I don't own a cow or goat - something I think Scott would someday find fun to remedy). So today I will be making bread for lunches and probably some jam - we are on our last jar.

Anyway, here is the No-Shopping Week menu:

Monday:
Broccoli and Grape Pasta Salad - this is sooooo good! Recipe found HERE
Rolls

Tuesday:
Chicken and Wild Rice Soup
Breadsticks
Green Salad

Wednesday (Scott is going out town for work until Friday...so more kid-friendly meals):
Sticky chicken served over white rice
Fruit salad

Thursday:
Fettuccine Carbonara
Salad
Breadsticks

Friday:
Slow Cooker Indian Stew (I froze half last time I made it, so this will be easy) recipe found HERE

Saturday (LILY'S BIRTHDAY!!!!!):
Spaghetti (her favorite)
Salad
rolls

Sunday:
Pork Tenderloin
Potatoes
Green Beans
Rolls

As always, the recipes I don't have linked online, are ones I have in my book. Let me know if you want it and I will post it!

Have a great week.

Our old Bishop suggested we keep 3 months of easy "sick people food" like applesauce, canned soup, re-hydration drinks etc. Since he's our bishop, I listened. Since he's FBI, I didn't waste a minute :)

That's a good idea! I have all those foods on hand, but had never thought of them in that light. It makes a lot sense! Thanks Sasha!
